Michael is a trusted business and legal advisor who provides small and mid-sized private companies with guidance on how to grow their business and achieve their strategic objectives. Michael partners with his clients to find novel, creative and practical solutions to complicated legal issues, including negotiating, documenting and implementing sophisticated commercial transactions, mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships and joint ventures. Michael’s approach to the practice of law is that all commercial agreements should be drafted to as straightforward as possible, with clear and concise language. Michael’s greatest pleasure is to assimilate a project and goal, coordinate with a team of advisers to provide a business owner with coherent, comprehensible and executable strategic plan, and observe the owner’s business thrive as a result. Michael has a great deal of practical experience regarding tax and corporate governance matters and would be very interested in helping you and your business achieve a greater level of success.
Michael has been practicing estate planning for over twenty years. Michael believes a lot of problems can be avoided through the use of simple tools such as trusts, powers of attorney, prenuptial agreements, powers of attorney and declarations of intent.
Often, though, I meet clients after the worst has happened and the time for pre-planning has passed. In these cases, the goal is to help them through as professionally and kindly as possible. This might mean establishing a guardianship/conservatorship for a disabled family member, helping a client though a challenging probate or trust administration, or helping transition a business.
Michael graduated from the Moorhead State University located in Moorhead, Minnesota with a B.A. in 1992, and received his law degree from Creighton Law School located in Omaha, Nebraska in 1997. Before forming starting his own firm, Michael was a shareholder in the firm of Berenbaum Weinshienk PC and then a partner in Spencer Fane LLP. When not working, Michael enjoys spending time outside with his wife and two children.
